Why visit
Sigiriya is a fifth-century rock fortress in the Cultural Triangle, with frescoes, terraced gardens and a wide view from the summit. It appears on our Signature journey because it gives first-time visitors a clear sense of Sri Lanka inland, without needing a specialist expedition.
What to see
Most travellers climb the rock in the cooler morning. The water gardens at the base, the lion paws, and the view over forested plains are the usual sequence. Nearby Dambulla cave temples and village landscapes pair well the same afternoon if you keep the pace kind.
How many nights
Two nights nearby is comfortable: one for the climb, one without an alarm. With a private chauffeur-guide you can leave the hotel at a sane hour and skip the bus-tour crush where possible.
Nearby
Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura sit in the same region. Kandy is the natural next stop toward the hills. A tailor-made plan can emphasise ruins or move on quickly if heat is a concern, especially with children.
