Why visit
Kandy sits in the hills with a lake at its centre and the Temple of the Tooth Relic as its most visited site. It is the hinge between the Cultural Triangle and tea country on our Signature and Hill Country journeys.
What to see
The temple is the usual focus. A circuit of the lake, a botanical garden if the group has energy, and an evening performance if you want one, are enough. Spice gardens on the road in are optional, not obligatory.
How many nights
One night works if you are moving. Two nights is kinder, especially after Sigiriya. From Kandy the scenic train toward Nuwara Eliya or Ella is the classic continuation.
Temple etiquette is simple: covered shoulders and knees, shoes off. Your chauffeur-guide will time arrival so you are not walking in the hardest heat.
